Concussions are a growing concern in the sporting world. This is not because there are more concussions happening, but that we have more information to identify possible concussions and better methods for assessing them. As such, it is important that athletes can access these services during their sporting careers and can be seen by medical professionals with concussion expertise if needed, for injury during their playing careers.
Wave Athletics in conjunction with The Healing Path offers concussion services including baseline testing, assessment and post-injury testing. Our testing includes the tests below
- Red flags
- Immediate assessment
- Maddocks Score
- Glasgow Coma Scale
- Cervical Spine Exam
- Symptom Evaluation
- Cognitive Assessment - including memory, and concentration
- Neurological Exam - including tandem gait
- Balance testing
- VOMS
These tests have been proven to provide the most comprehensive assessment of a baseline standard and concussion assessment.[1] [2]
We provide the testing services as a package - for $35 you will receive
- A baseline test
- Concussion assessment testing should you suffer a suspected concussion
- Follow up testing for post-concussion and return to learn and play
- There is a maximum of 8 tests per year for the current fee, additional tests can be purchased for $5/test
We can also, for additional fees, complete your Return to Learn and Return to Play protocol. Additional services for treatment of concussion including Athletic Therapy, Reiki, and manual neck work. These services are recommended for treatment during a concussion recovery and can be provided by the Healing Path if you are not seeing another therapist.
